Spooky Spellers

The imaginative and exciting world of the spooky spellers uses a look, cover, write, check approach, using words taken from the National Literacy Strategy and Dee Reid Top 100 / 200.

Pupils are invited to take an exhilarating journey aided by 10 fun Spooky Speller characters, each having control over a group of words. Pupils begin with 2 letter word cards, aided by the Serpent. There are four laminated 2 letter word cards, each with five or six words on one side of the card. Pupils have to turn over the card and write the words on the other side from memory. Once they’ve successfully done all the two letter words cards, (culminating in 22 two-letter words) they get their passport and certificate to enter Spooky Speller Land and move on to three (54 words altogether) and four (98 words altogether). It is highly motivational to do and linked with the fun posters with the opportunities they offer for language development we have a mini- programme for spelling that’s a must have for any Infant Classroom (age 5 - 8).

• A set of 36 pupil cards containing 4 two-letter word cards, 9 three-letter word cards and 14 four-letter word cards and 9 blanks, laminated, write-on, wipe-off.

• Teachers’ Book

• 24 full colour certificates

• Record sheets: for recording pupils' progression through the cards

• Full colour A4 letter from the spooky spellers to the children
